Makeup Matters: A Spring Tune Up
Just as it is important to maintain your car or your heating and air-conditioning system with a seasonal tune-up, it is just as important for every woman to give herself a “tune-up” with her beauty routine every season.
Having just weathered through the drying effects of winter many of us are now suffering through the stressful and fatiguing allergy season. The toll these things take on the skin can be very punishing. This is the time of year when your skin may be looking lackluster or stressed, dry, perhaps uneven and blotchy. Basically, the performance of your skin has become sluggish.
You may also be noticing that your makeup doesn’t seem to be wearing as well for you as you thought it did when you bought it last fall.
Your foundation may seem to be either: disappearing, collecting in pores and fine line areas and/or looking too light on your complexion.
Ladies, this is when your skin is telling you that it is time for a spring tune up!
That means it is time to do a seasonal treatment to repair and rejuvenate your skin and get it back to performing at its optimum level again. This can be managed in a number of ways depending on your skin’s personal needs – whether it is by applying a vitamin packed ampoule serum every evening for the recommended dosing time or a moisturizing/hydrating mask or an exfoliating type treatment system…if you really feel like pampering yourself why not treat yourself to a really nice facial from one of the fine skincare spas in town.
Whatever fits your budget or your fancy is available to you, but the most important thing is to get and keep your skin performing at its optimum for you as long as you can.
Next, it is time to put away your winter colors.
If your foundation appears to stand on your skin and not blend in to match your natural color then it is time to get color matched to a new shade for the late spring and early summer tone that you have become. Depending on how much sun you take in a summer season you may need to add to that color down the road though, which can be done easily by adding a bronzer or a tinted moisturizer in a deeper color to your foundation. If you are unsure about the color get a color expert to help you. Some of the better cosmetic lines hire professional makeup artists to come in to the store to teach women how to apply new makeup trends and products, these professional artists are available by appointment at various times of the year or you can hire an artist such as myself that is available for private consultation.
Whatever works best for your personal situation, you should always try before you buy, but remember if the color doesn’t look right to you or the foundation doesn’t give you the coverage (more or less) that you’re looking for…move along. Wait until you find what makes you happy. Foundation should make your skin look flawless and anything less is not what you want.
Spring is about fresh color that pops! The neutral brown, dark burgundy, or brick colored lipstick that you used all winter long has got to go into hibernation now!
A new lipstick in a sheer brighter formula is always a good thing for getting into the spirit of this beautiful season and a blush in a complimentary color brings a healthy glow to the face.
Adding a soft pink or coral shadow that has a micro fine shimmer brings light to the eyes, the overall affect is very uplifting. Take your cue from the natural world around you to brighten up your color wardrobe of makeup for spring and compliment that radiant new complexion you will want to show off.
