Thirteen Nashville business and community leaders have committed to raise money for 10 weeks for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and compete for the title of Man and Woman of the Year.

The Man & Woman of the Year campaign is a 10 week friendly fundraising competition benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, in which candidates compete for the titles in honor of local survivor children.

“We have a great group of Nashville leaders for the 2010 campaign, and I’m looking forward to seeing all of their fundraising ideas come to life.  These men and women are making a great difference in the lives of those suffering from blood cancers,” said Monica Ramey, Man and Woman of the Year Senior Campaign Manager.

A combination of local public figures, business executives and philanthropists make up the list of Nashville’s Man & Woman of the Year candidates, who agree to raise at least $5,000.00.  Judged solely on a philanthropic basis, the man and woman raising the most funds wins and is announced at the grand finale on June 3 at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Nashville.

Nashville’s 2009 Man of the Year, Eric Yutzy (formally of NewsChannel 5), raised over $52,000 while the Woman of the Year, Shannon Woods (Community Volunteer), raised over $38,000.

The 2010 Man and Woman of the Year competition kicked off at Valentinos Ristorante on March 25.

Rudy’s Story

I am honored and humbled to tell you I have been nominated for Man of the Year by The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).  The Man & Woman of the Year Campaign is a campaign to raise money for the fight against blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, & myeloma.

The year 1985 was filled with a number of historic events, among them; Ronald Reagan was sworn in for his second term, Gorbachev became the soviet leader, the Live Aid benefit concerts took place, and We Are the World was recorded.  As for me, Christmas Eve 1985 was when my father lost his battle with Leukemia.

I was nine when my father passed at the young age of 37.  I am now 33, with a wife and two children, only a year younger than my father when he was diagnosed with Leukemia.  As I approach 34, my mortality is increasingly apparent.

With this reality in mind, this year I have decided to help make a difference and accepted a nomination for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Man of the Year Campaign.  This is a ten-week friendly fundraising competition.  March 25, 2010 through June 3, 2010, I will be campaigning to raise money for blood cancer research and increase LLS awareness to help educate others on the cause.

My father touched the lives of so many individuals and it is significant to me that I follow in my father’s path and leave a similar legacy for my children.

You can help me with this goal and the fight for a cure by donating to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on behalf of my Man of the Year campaign.

Please join me and help advance the mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Many thanks for your support for patients battling blood cancers and their families,

Rudy
