| PRETTY PRETTY PRINTS
Designers went print crazy this season! Not just one particular print, but all kinds of prints! Whatever your style, there’s a print out there for you. Fall in love again with floral prints, both big and small. Find modern interpretations in bold graphic patterns. If you’ve got a special event straight ahead invest in a pattern-filled dress on the shorter side (pair with a great strappy heel). Dabble in the trend by pairing a great pair of short-shorts with a billowy buttonfront blouse or tunic. Smack Clothing (Elliston Place) has a great selection of dresses, or visit Hemline in the Hill Center. NEUTRAL ZONE If you’re in the mood for a lowkey, sophisticated approach to an outfit, then less is more by choosing neutrals when hitting the town. Streamlined silhouettes and tailoring, monochromatic, solid shades of khaki, gray, and white rule. Newly invented color, Greige, also takes center stage. Neutral tones create that elegant, warmweather barely there look. Favorite American designhouse Calvin Klein showed this attitude toward dressing along with Jill Stuart. Pick a great shirtdress or safari-ready khaki pantsuit and pair with your fabulous new wedges or open-toe booties. Mix up the look by accessorizing with a hint of metallic in the form of a great belt or bangle bracelets. Also, try wearing a neutral pair of bottoms with a turqoise top of shirt. Find selections at The Gap or H. Audrey located in the Hill Center (Green Hills). MY BOYFRIEND’S BACK Last season we spoke of a major musthave – the jacket or blazer. This trend continues, evolving for Spring/Summer 2010. Blazers and vests are still hot, but in slightly softer, lighter fabrics. Choose a great blazer and roll the sleeves up and go! Pair a great vest with a comfy V-neck or tank. Big shoulders are still popular as well. Coordinate this substantial piece with Spring’s other recommendations… shorts. Play off this masculine silhoette with a flower pin or girly vintage style locket. This trend can be seen at Sugar (Green Hills) and Flavour, located on Music Row. HOT FOR HOTPANTS O.k., maybe not the hotpants you first think of… no Solid Gold, disco ball flavored gear, but legs and more legs are very visible this season. Pair a great pair of short-shorts with any or all of the other trends we touch upon. A Boyfriend Blazer, simple t-shirt, and a pair of strappy sandals looks fun and flirty. A neutral toned pair of shorts with a flowy printed tunic would be fabulous. DKNY and Marc Jacobs showed this trend on runways. Short is the trend, but avoid the “I forgot my pants look” by not going too short. Visit Bebe in the Mall @ Green Hills or Posh Boutique for selections. (NOT SO) HEAVY METAL Metallics were such a hit last season that designers are making them a hit for Spring as well. Find them in shoes (read on for trends in footwear), handbags, belts, and jewelry. The most popular shades appear to be pale golds, brushed brozes, and silver. Winter metallic trends might be a bit heavy (studded garments and mesh), so lighten up the look by only wearing a small amount. Pair a metallic belt with a long, lean tank or tee. Sport a metallic clutch with one of your favorite little black dresses, or non-matching bangle bracelets with a flirty floral frock. Posh Boutique carries a great selection (2 Nashville locations). Make a minor investment in this trend by visiting your local Target. FOOT FETISH Strap yourself in! Just in time for warm weather, strappy or caged sandals fit the bill. Stars are rocking the redcarpet in these revealing multistrap heels. Another trend reimurging one again is the wedge. Made from cork, wood, or even cover in rope, the wedge is much easier to wear than stilettos. The bootie from last season evolves with straps and open toes. Enjoy flaunting your feet by pairing the above shoe trends with the season’s sexy, flirty dresses, shorts, and skinny jeans you already have in your closet. You can find these fresh footwear stylse at your local Dillard’s, The Perfect Pair (Green Hills), or online at ZAPPOS.com. |
In conclusion, Spring 2010 will be an exciting season for fashion.
Looks are classically inspired with a serious infusion of sex appeal and tasteful exposure of skin.
